Choreographer

Annie Kloppenberg's current creative and theoretical research hinges on improvisation. She has presented papers examining spontaneity in the choreographic process at NYU (DAB), University of Wisconsin, Madison (WDAA), and Stanford University (SDHS). 

Annie performs and  teaches nationally as a member of the improvisational ensemble, Like You Mean It. 

Choreographic residencies or commissions include Dance Theater Workshop’s Outer/Space, The Boston Center for the Arts, The Taft School, The Dublin Arts Council,  OhioDance and The Ohio State University.

Kloppenberg has been a guest teacher at dance academies such as the Boston Ballet and Ballet Met Columbus, among others, at professional venues including The Dance Complex (Boston), Triskelion Arts (NYC), CM2 (Columbus), and at universities or conferences including University of Michigan, Ohio University, Oberlin College/OhioDance, The Ephiphany Dance Experiment (Chicago), University of Akron/ACDF.

She has performed in works by Bebe Miller Company, Sara Pearson & Patrik Widrig, Shani Collins, Rebecca Rice, Penny Campbell, Prometheus Dance, Cathy Young, Heidi Henderson, Karl Rogers,  Meghan Sprenger/MVWorks, Annie Bessera/Striding Lion, Ashley Thorndike, Elisha Clark-Halpin, and Katherine Ferrier, among others. 

In addition to making choreography, teaching, and performing, Annie has also worked in arts administration at the Wexner Center for the Arts, New York City Center, and Dance Theater Workshop. 

Annie is Assistant Professor of Dance at Colby College, holds an MFA from The Ohio State University, a BA from Middlebury College, and has been awarded scholarships to the American Dance Festival and the Bates Dance Festival, where she was also a staff member of the Young Dancers’ Workshop for several years.
