A study explicitly in preparation for Entrances & Echoes, this work took advantage of looking architecturally at the proscenium of Colby’s Strider Theater as a site. Bathing an oversized set of double-doors with light allowed them to dominate and frame an artificially compressed space. In a hard-edged column of white light, two figures—somber, anonymous, and almost twin-like—circle one another, echoing, but not copying one another’s actions.
In Entrances and Echoes, the piece was reimagined and performed by two men; and later performed by two dancers from the Portland Ballet, one male, one female. Each time, the structure of the piece remained, but the content shifted.
